GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. — Leeds West Groups (LWG) has acquired three Big O Tires outlets in Oklahoma from MFA Oil Co., which continues to operate 19 Big O stores in Missouri and Arkansas.
LWG is taking over Big O stores in Enid, Mustang and Norman, Okla., expanding its network of Big O outlets to 31 locations in six states — Colorado, Kentucky, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas.
Financial terms of the deal are not being disclosed. Separately, LWG is buying the real estate for the Norman store from MFA Oil, a Columbia, Mo.-based farm co-op whose primary business is oil distribution.
With 31 locations, Greenwood-base LWG is the largest Big O Tires franchisee. LWG also operates 82 Midas Auto Care locations in 18 states throughout the U.S.
MFA opened its first Big O store in Oklahoma, in Enid, in 2016 and added the other two in the interim. It did not comment on its reasons for divesting these assets.
“Expanding the Big O Tires brand into our sixth state and creating synergy with our existing Midas presence within the Oklahoma market is incredibly exciting for LWG,” LWG CEO Judd Kyle Shader said.
“This acquisition allows us to continue to create consolidation and more opportunities within the Big O Tires brand.”
LWG already operates six Midas-branded retail stores in Oklahoma, including outlets in in Norman last November and Oklahoma City last August.
With 113 franchised stores total, LWG is considered the 11th largest independent tire dealership in the U.S., according to Tire Business calculations.
Other recent LWG acquisitions include:
- A vacated auto service business building in Overland Park, Kan., that LWG plans to convert to a Midas Auto Service location by February;
- Big O Tires locations in Colorado Springs and Monument, from Lone Star Investments L.L.C.
- Big O Tire stores in Georgetown and Lexington, Ky., and Hamilton, Ohio, from Big OKI L.L.C., a division of Eagle Finance Services Inc.
- Six Big O Tires locations in the Albuquerque, N.M., area from BBAC Group, a long-time Big O franchise consisting of Keith Blake, Michael Pryor, Mitch Beranek and Scott Koldenhoven that also operates 11 Big O stores in Colorado.
This is MFA Oil’s second divestiture in recent months. In November it divested the eight Jiffy Lube quick-service oil change stores it operated in mid-Missouri to Allied Lube Group, one of the nation’s largest Jiffy Lube franchisees with over 100 stores.
