Cayle said he heard his daughter scream while eating dinner and knew something wasn’t right. He told Newshub when he rushed to pick her up, his daughter’s head was “gushing” with blood.
The father said he rushed his daughter in his arms to the front counter where he asked for a first aid kit, but that’s where things got frustrating.
“I got to the counter and I asked the woman behind the counter ‘where the first aid kit is’. She looked at me confused. So I looked at the second one, said ‘we need a first aid kit. Where is it?’ And she goes, ‘What’s a first aid kit?'”
He said a member of the public came over with paper towels to slow the bleeding when staff allegedly failed to understand or find a first aid kit.
The father and his wife took their daughter to the hospital where she got three stitches for the cut that was 3cm long and 1cm deep.
But now he wants McDonald’s to ensure it’s educating its staff about appropriate health and safety.
“It just seems like there’s a big disconnect. Like, how can you have a business, that where staff aren’t trained, like a figure with a job like that, choking would be one of the biggest hazards? You can’t have staff on like that.”
Cayle said he’s made a complaint with McDonald’s but said he’s waiting for the franchise owner to contact him.
Newshub has approached McDonald’s for comment.
