To add to our amazing legal team, we are currently seeking to fill a counsel/senior counsel position. This candidate should have a variety of skillsets and be flexible/ willing to develop expertise in the important areas. This position is responsible for 2 primary areas: (a) privacy and data security compliance for U.S., Canadian and Global regions and related contractual matters, and (b) franchise and contractual issues for RE/MAX Global regions outside the U.S. and Canada.
Essential Duties:
Privacy:
- Lead compliance programs for privacy and data security for U.S., Canadian and Global regions, and develop and implement global standards, policies and processes surrounding privacy and data protection.
- Advise business clients on compliance with privacy and data security laws.
- Review new products, services and features, and other uses of data to ensure compliance with applicable privacy and data protection laws.
- Develop necessary privacy trainings for various business units.
- Oversee data transfer issues.
- Advise transactional attorneys on data protection and sharing terms on other contracts with data implications.
Global Franchising and Business Advice:
- Advise business clients on compliance with country-specific laws (such as franchise registration/disclosure and commercial agency) impacting franchise sales, transfers, renewals, and terminations.
- Prepare franchise-related documents and agreements such as master and office disclosure documents, master and office franchise agreements, and license agreements.
- Coordinate outside counsel advice and counsel clients on other country-specific issues in the 110+ countries and territories where RE/MAX has a presence.
- Audit existing master and regional agreements, disclosure documents and review template agreements used by master franchisees.
- Provide guidance on the application of U.S. laws and regulations impacting RE/MAX’s Global regions, including anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism and export compliance.
- Supervise senior paralegal.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Cross-support for other attorney responsibilities on an as-needed basis or as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- J.D. degree with strong academic credentials from an ABA-accredited law school.
- 5+ years prior legal experience, primarily in privacy, international franchising and/or business issues.
- CIPP/US, CA, EU and/or Technology certification a plus.
- Admission to the bar of the applicant’s state of residence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and analytical skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Team player attitude.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage workload independently, efficiently and effectively.
- Foreign language fluency a plus.
- We are able to consider either mid- or senior-level candidates; precise responsibilities and compensation to be determined based upon the successful candidate’s background and experience.

Compensation:
$150,000 – $200,000
Actual compensation offered to candidate will be finalized at offer and may be above or below the posted range due to skill level, experience, industry specific knowledge, education/certifications, or geographic location. The offer rate represents one component of the RE/MAX Holdings total compensation package. Employees will also receive a number of benefits as listed below. Other compensation for this position may include bonus eligibility.
