Biscuit Belly announced it is closing its Colonial Gardens restaurant on Thursday, according to Louisville Business First.In a release, the company said it had high hopes for the location and the redevelopment of the historic South End property across from Iroquois Park, but like many other restaurants, it struggled with lingering effects of the pandemic, dramatic increases in food and cost of goods, higher utilities, lower sales and the ongoing labor shortage.“Our team has worked diligently to make this location successful, and we want to thank them and our loyal customers from this area who have supported us the last 2-plus years,” said Chad Coulter, founder and CEO of Biscuit Belly LLC, the operator of the restaurant. “However, sales and expenses are not at a level where we can operate profitably. We still have major confidence in the brand and will be continuing to open new locations in the Louisville market and expand into other markets through corporate and franchising efforts.“We appreciate all the support from our team members and will be giving them one week of their average monthly pay to help them transition into other jobs.”Colonial Gardens was Biscuit Belly’s third Louisville location. The fast-casual restaurant opened its first location at 900 E. Main St. in NuLu in 2019.
