The Raiders are days away from entering a critical offseason and it could be a make-or-break season on the way for head coach Josh McDaniels.
The narrative coming from the Raiders’ building for months has been that the roster isn’t as talented as it was advertised before the season and Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer brought up that storyline again this week on the Dan Patrick Show.
“[Derek] Carr was kind of thrown into a de facto competition with Garoppolo and Brady,” Breer said. “Carr wasn’t what they thought he would be. It’s part of them misjudging the roster a little bit.”
The problem with Breer’s thought process on Carr is that it doesn’t explain the decline in Carr’s play under McDaniels.
Carr got worse with his new head coach and that’s not a great sign for the organization going forward.
From the standpoint of the entire roster, how is it that Rich Bisaccia was able to win with this group, but the most coveted head coach of last year’s hiring cycle was only able to get 6 wins?
No one is rooting against McDaniels, but it’s more than fair at this point to wonder if the organization might have “misjudged” him.
