IRVINE, Calif. —The quick oil-change business scored well on Entrepreneur magazine’s Franchise 500 rankings for 2019, snagging four of the top five automotive service-related franchise businesses on the list.
Jiffy Lube Intl. Inc. (No. 90), Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers (No. 99) and Valvoline Instant Oil Change (No. 106) are the top three auto service franchises on this year’s list, with Big O Tires L.L.C. (No. 172) edging into the mix just ahead of Grease Monkey Franchising L.L.C. (No. 174).
Entrepreneur magazine’s annual franchise program rankings — the 40th such compilation — are based on a basket of criteria, grouped under five main categories: costs/fees; size/growth; support; brand strength; and financial strength/stability.
The publication notes that the Franchise 500 is not intended to endorse, advertise or recommend any particular franchise. It is solely a tool to compare franchise operations.
Other auto service-related franchise programs that made the list are:
• Christian Brothers Automotive Corp. (210)
• RNR Tire Express & Custom Wheels (218)
• AAMCO Transmissions & Total Car Care (229)
• Tuffy Tire & Auto Service (273)
• Midas Intl. Corp. (301)
• Precision Tune Auto Care (303)
• Milex Complete Auto Care/Mr. Transmission (418)
• SpeeDee Oil Change & Auto Service Center (473)
• Meineke Car Care Centers (488)

To be eligible for the ranking, a franchisor must be seeking new franchisees in the U.S. or Canada and must have had a minimum of 10 units open and operating as of July 31, 2018, with at least one franchise located in North America, Entrepreneur said.
Each eligible franchisor was scored based on more than 150 data points, and those with the highest cumulative scores became the Franchise 500.
