MFA Oil Co., a farmer-owned energy supply cooperative, purchased Blue Flame Gas, an independent propane retailer based in Marthasville, Missouri. The deal includes trucks, tanks and customer accounts.
“Our family has owned Blue Flame Gas Co. for four decades, and the decision to sell has not been easy,” says Sandy Cooper, daughter of Blue Flame Gas founder Dennis Glosemeyer. “When MFA Oil approached us about buying Blue Flame Gas, we all knew it was the best fit for our customers and employees. I also knew that dad would be incredibly pleased with our choice. He always said if he would ever sell, he wouldn’t sell to just anyone.”
Blue Flame Gas has provided propane service to customers in Warren County and surrounding areas for more than 40 years.
Kenny Steeves, senior vice president of MFA Oil operations, confirmed MFA Oil will continue to operate the Marthasville office. MFA Oil already has a presence in Marthasville, with a Petro-Card 24 fuel station and a refined fuel bulk plant.
“We want to thank the Glosemeyer family, the former owners of Blue Flame Gas, for making this an easy and smooth transaction,” Steeves says. “Working with them has been wonderful. We are also happy to welcome two very experienced employees and their vast knowledge of the propane business to the MFA Oil family.”
MFA Oil continues to evaluate strategic acquisition opportunities in its existing market areas and other regions where it can expand its footprint, according to the company. This is the first acquisition of MFA Oil’s 2023 fiscal year, which began on Sept. 1, 2022. MFA Oil completed three acquisitions in its 2022 fiscal year, most recently D&D Oil.
MFA Oil Co., formed in 1929, is a farmer-owned cooperative with more than 40,000 members. The company ranked No. 9 in the U.S. for retail propane gallon sales, according to the 2022 LP Gas Top Propane Retailers ranking.
The company supplies fuels, lubricants and propane to customers in Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Oklahoma and Tennessee. Through a subsidiary, MFA Oil operates Break Time convenience stores in Missouri and a Big O Tires franchise in Missouri and Arkansas.
